ZebrafishBrain:
A Neuroanatomical Atlas of the Developing Zebrafish Brain

The developing zebrafish is rapidly becoming a leading vertebrate model for studies of circuit function and behaviour. An essential prerequisite for such studies is an understanding of the neuroanatomy of the brain. In collaboration with Jon Clarke's, lab in KCL, we have been developing an online, high-resolution atlas of the developing zebrafish brain. ZebrafishBrain aims to be a user-friendly and highly flexible resource for presenting information about the neuroanatomy of the developing zebrafish brain.

The embryonic zebrafish has outstanding optical properties that permit imaging of the entire intact brain at high resolution by confocal microscopy and neuron-targeted transgenes are excellent tools for resolving neuroanatomy. To date we have imaged many beautiful transgenic lines. We combine these transgenic lines along with other  antibody, nuclear markers and gene expression studies to describe the developing brain. You can start exploring ZebrafishBrain by searching for either a particular brain region or specific transgenic line/antibody below or go to the Explore the Brain section below to browse the ontology and our annotated images.

Explore ZebrafishBrain by brain region or by browsing our collection of high resolution images of transgenic lines and antibody labelings. We also have sections on white matter (axonal tracts and commissures), neurotransmitter systems, cranial nerves and the visual system.



ZebrafishBrain use the ontology developed by ZFIN to name brain structures. The zebrafish anatomy and development ontology is a structured controlled vocabulary of the anatomy and development of the Zebrafish.
