The Fish Floor once again opened our doors to 10 budding A-level biologists. With a revamped program and even more practical sessions, this years cohort got a real taste of life as a zebrafish researcher.

We have incorporated new technologies such as Crispr/Cas9 and multiplexed HCR experiments. We challenged their dexterity with some very tricky techniques including microinjections, cell transplantation and dechorionation. They looked at all kinds of zebrafish on lots of different microscopes. They learned how to genotype using PCR. They knocked out genes and looked at the effects on morphology and gene expression. They observed lots of different behavioural setups and even analysed some mutant data.

As always they seriously impressed us with their presentations.

We wish these fantastic young scientists all the best for their future endeavors.

Huge thanks to all the Fish Floor peeps who give up their time to make this placement happen!
