About gad2 (glutamate decarboxylase 2)
gad1b is orthologous to human GAD2/ GAD65(glutamate decarboxylase 2) this enzyme catalyses the decarboxylation of L-glutamic acid to make the inhibitory neurotransmitter gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA). gad2 is expressed in the nervous system in neurons that use GABA as a neurotransmitter.
Expression pattern
gad2 is expressed in GABAergic neurons throughout the nervous system.
