About tac3a

tachykinin precursor 3a
synonyms: Neurokinin B

tac3a is orthologous to human TAC3 and in rodents to tac2. TAC3/Neurokinin B may participate in neuroendocrine control of zebrafish reproduction by stimulating gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) neurons, mainly via kisspeptin. In mammals, NeurokininB is coexpressed with kisspeptin (Kiss) and dynorphin in neurons of the arcuate nucleus of the hypothalamus, which are therefore called KNDy neurons

Expression pattern

At embryonic and larval stages tac3a is expressed asymmetrically in the dorsal habenula. tac3a mRNA-expressing cells detected in the subpallium (SubP), posterior tuberculum(PT) , rostral and intermediate hypothalamus, posterior tuberal nucleus (PTN), tegmentum(Teg), superior raphe (SR) and the medulla oblongata.
